Eye Testing Tool for mobiles developed by Netra MIT Team

A Team based at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have developed a tool to perform eye tests using a mobile.  NETRA (Near-Eye Tool for Refractive Assessment) state that the tool does not require expertise, any mobile users can use, also cost only $ 1-2 which will be reduced further in future. Interestingly, the complete test can be completed in 2 minutes.

Associate Professor Ramesh Raskar and postdoctoral research associate Ankit Mohan, along with their team at MIT’s Media Lab have developed the NETRA tool for mobiles.

The eye testing process with NETRA is quite simple. Users will need to see in the lens of NETRA. He will see 2 lines, one red color and other green color. Than user need to adjust and bring both the lines aligned into one. For people without any eye problem, both the lines will be seen merged. The process is repeated 8 times from different angles. The software loaded in the mobile will than provide required information.

The team will be start commercial use of the technology under company “PerfectSight” which will be a for profit company. The team aims to target Asia and Africa in the beginning. The NETRA tool is claimed to be both faster and accurate over traditional methods. Ramesh Kaskar, one of the team member said, “By using high-resolution LCD displays with this system, it is potentially not only much faster than today’s standard methods, but also “potentially more accurate.”

Neotys Announces NeoLoad 3.1; First Load Testing Solution to Support New “Push” Technologies

For top quality , easy to use, cost effective load testing tools for web applications try Neotys NeoLoad 3.1 released today, the first test solution on the market to incorporate support for new push technologies such as Adobe RTMP, Ajax Push and Java serialization. NeoLoad 3.1 also offers new features to improve the design, execution and analysis of load test campaigns.

Previous versions of NeoLoad supported major RIA technologies such as Ajax, Adobe Flex, GWT and Silverlight. NeoLoad release 3.1 takes the next step in testing web applications by allowing users to load test the latest and most advanced development technologies, just months after their release. NeoLoad now includes support for the newest “Push” data exchange protocols such as such Adobe RTMP, LightStreamer and ICEfaces. These innovative protocols provide greater fluidity and interaction with web applications that integrate rich content (flash, video, sound) as they offer enhanced capabilities for data exchange with better interoperability.

Screen shot example: Description record your test scenarios to create different virtual user business profiles. NeoLoad automatically handles all your application’s parameters without the need for scripts.

Heres some of Neotys NeoLoad 3.1 key features:

Parameters framework: automates the extraction and injection of dynamic parameters within the application. The engine variabilization feature has been improved to include more comprehensive injection rules, support for binary protocols and the provision of pre-configured frameworks.

• Shared Elements: provides a set of business transactions and a pool for all virtual profiles. In this latest version, when changes are made to initial script, updates occur automatically.

• Thresholds alerts: sets monitoring thresholds for a very large number of parameters (CPU, servers, memory,) and automatically generates alerts as a threshold is met. This feature helps detect anomalies and extract key information during trouble shooting. This feature helps detect software or hardware resources which are becoming saturated during a load test. This proactive monitoring saves time in finding and alleviating bottlenecks.

NeoLoad 3.1 is available now and can be tested free for 30 days with a trial version download from the Neotys website. The cost for a 250 virtual user permanent license with the FLEX protocol is $22,826. Monthly rental for the same configuration costs $6,024. Additional pricing is also available on the website.

Breakthrough in Cloud-Based AJAX Performance Testing

eValidSoftware Research Inc., maker of the widely used eValid browser based web application suite, has announced a new Server Load Performance Testing tool for AJAX-based web applications.

Using eValid’s simultaneous launched test-enabled live web browsers, eValid can generate server load up to 1,000 browser users per machine and expand the scalability of load testing in the hundred of thousands, using computer cloud resources in sustained tests for many hours and at very low costs.

eValid

“Because eValid is built in a browser, when it runs a test on an AJAX application it appears completely real to the application servers. Running large numbers of eValid instances — we call them Browser Users (BUs) — using compute-cloud resources gives you the Holy Grail of AJAX Performance Testing: Real Users. You get high loads and you don’t have to spend a fortune to do it,” said Edward Miller, President of Software Research and eValid’s Chief Architect.

An upcoming Webinar “Cloud-Based AJAX Performance Testing“, scheduled for Wednesday, 23 June 2010, will show how an eValid user can record tests from life, make a few key script modifications to assure that they are LoadTest safe, lift them in 100-wide scenario partitions, and then run the 100-wide partitions on multiple very-large cloud-computers, collect data as the imposed server load ramps up, and display scenario-wide end-user perspective performance results.
